Couple Crush….

Just watched a programme on the wonderful Margaret Atwood and am feeling all warm inside..

I can’t really sum it up in words…the author herself…and the relationship with her husband….or maybe the long term friend….perhaps both

All I will say is….after the programme stood at the backdoor looking up at the night sky….patches of cloud obscuring the moon BUT… a shooting star whizzed past…at least I think it was…or a meteor or a satellite….not sure

But a nice end to a day of frustration by way of crumbling plaster….falling down curtain poles at the same time as a serene woman parading up and down past my window that I wanted to throw my drill at….and a visit to my eldest whose situation at present is breaking my heart … gorgeous tho he looked…having grown his hair into a wild mess and sporting a burgundy velour tracksuit labelled ‘Be Velvet’

Yep…. ‘Be Velvet’

The most important job in the Universe!!!

Sam’s struggling to get his head around it…..he’ll get over it tho am sure

As for me….am just stuck at home bloody knitting YAWN…..shame you’ve already got a sidekick….if he gets lost in space or something Jo….you know…..would be more than happy to stand in till he gets back..Hmmmm and I could don a rather natty knitted cape to boot

Well actually its a scarf

No its a blanket

Well actually am not sure what it is yet but still

Sunday……. a mixed blessing

So…….awoke this morning to the eldest slumped on the sofa watching The Andrew Marr Show…..’Gobsmacked’ I believe is the right phrase to describe how I felt about this

I had plans for today too….yes PLANS…it doesnt happen often BUT I had heard on the radio Lister Park Bradford (old stomping ground) had created a gallery space dedicated to the life and works of David Hockney who spentvhis formative years here ..and is apparantly 80…. yep EIGHTY!!!!

Hmmmm…..I want some of what he’s having…..erm….well no….well yes….basically he’s very good for his age and has a photographic memory…so I think I could do with some of that right now

So….a BEAUTIFUL day….clear blue sky….warm and sunny with just the right amount of breeze

Tried to persuade the eldest to come but he was far too buzy slouching and apparantly getting into politics….or gazing at the screen absently…it was hard to tell

ANYWAY…. hot footed it into the car regardless and off I popped

A quick stroll and sit under a tree ( am STILL trying to channel something akin to Dylan from the Magic Roundabout…and not doing tooooo badly if I say so myself despite being tested somewhat)

THEN into the Gallery…..after passing an assortment of equally chilled strollers…a number of folks dressed AS David Hockney and one or two dogs sporting shiney conicle hats….I kid you NOT

Where was I?…..Ahhh yes….into the gallery itself….FABULOUS

Downstairs an exhibition of art by local children of various ages groups…..some bits and bobs of other 20th century artists then upstairs to the man himself

Well ALMOST….as well as a range of art spanning his career from schooldays to present, along with personal photographs and a set up of his studio along with Hockney  chatting from the very same chair on a screen in the corner

WELL what can I say?….got carried away despite it being busy due to it being the opening event ( must go back again when its quieter to potter longer)

So….happy as larry (who IS larry?) I skipped down the stairs popping some cash in the donation box ( yes its FREE!!!)

‘Uh oh…..where are my keys???’

Quick rummage in my bag…. ‘Nope’

Tipped it upside down….felt in the pocket….’Nope’

‘Now don’t disturb the inner Dillon just retrace your steps  …they’re probably under the tree where you were doing an outer Dillon’

But sat under the tree again….observing the Magic Roundabout of Lister Park with its assortment of revellers and chillers as mentioned above…saying to myself ‘C’mon Dillon…don’t leave me now man….show me the keys’

But he didn’t….I called into reception where lost property usually handed in…

Back to the car thinking ‘could I have dropped them when I got out?’ but knowing I hadn’t

Fortunately my brother doesnt live too far away from the park…..he came down with his partner and my neice ( who had a balloon unipig corn thingy… don’t ask)..we had another look…..then an icecream and at close of play asked the security guard who checked any keys handed in AGAIN…. Nope

SO…..thankfully said brother ran me home and my car remains…..probably all by itself….sat outside the great lister park….as I can’t contact my insurers untill 8am tomorrow

and YES I only have the one car key ( it was sold to me that way)

and YES I guess with hindsight I should’ve got another key cut

and YES I have emailed the police to let them know….

  1. In case they pass the car sat there and think it looks suspicious ( can a spring green skoda covered in daisies look suspicious do you think?)
  2. In case someone finds the keys and sees the lone car there and thinks ‘AHA!!!’ and nicks it to either joy ride OR commit some heinous crime…hmmmm actually don’t think thats likely either do you?

Hmmmm….or was I pickpocketed?….if I was….said theives hoping to nick a car are in for a shock when they see what they’re left with….they will be phoning the police themselves ….fessing up and BEGGING the boys in blue to return the keys to the owner FORTHWITH

Regardless….I envisage a wild goosechase tomorrow of some sort

Oh…. AND I got flapped and hissed at by a Canada Goose on the path in the park….bloody Canada Geese….never did like em much…. should’ve known then it was going to be a Sunday of mixed blessings

Hmmmm….maybe I should’ve just slouched on the couch

Blimey…… I am TRYING to have a media boycott and bring forth the internal ‘omness’ I managed to soak up last week during the ‘Timeout’ but it has been IMPOSSIBLE to escape the coverage of Glasto

It seems that the ‘Jezza luuuuuurve’ is now turning into some kind of hysteria.  The soup whisk whizzing hell for leather

AND I’ve returned to work with the usual ‘system’ hiccups and failures and general crazyness of what seems to be my daily life

Seems to me on one hand you have Theresa having taken her bat home and jumped into bed with UDP becoming ever more Thatcherite…and on the other Jezza taking the JC effect seriously and milking it like a rock star

We seem to be living in BONKERS times at present…..I was hoping for a more consensus style government but it looks like this is not to be

Hmmmm some good sets on at Glasto tho from what I heard… not sure about the BeeGee tho….Oh damn it….yes….yes ok….he was very good for entertainment value

Time Out…

Yep….cannot watch the news at the moment

Thing is….with everything going on am worried sick at the moment

SO…..have come away to the place that has offered me a little peace amongst the madness before

Yep….back to the Kadampa centre….where although buddhist….as long as respectful of buddhist way when visiting….there is no pressure

And I mean NO pressure… can FEEL the calm as soon as you walk in…..even the birds, squirrels etc come SO close you could touch them when sat outside… I reckon they can feel the ‘vibe’ also
……its my 4 th stay here over the years ( 3 in the last 3 years) and its ALWAYS lovely but different each time

I always said I didn’t believe in ‘religion’ per se…..I respect them all tho when practiced with ‘faith’

But I’ve SERIOUSLY lost the ability to meditate over the past 18 months….in fact the ability to do ANYTHING consistantly…. am hoping will get it back whilst here

Have been reading too…

In the lounge here there is a bookshelf and I picked a book up called..

‘How to solve our human problems’ and there was a little piece of paper popped between the pages as a marker on the subject of overcoming anger

And yep…..we ALL suffer from it at some point ….internalised as ‘depression’ or full blown ‘aggression’ ……hmmmmm and there’s a LOT of it about just now

The more am reading the more sense its making…..maybe we DO need ‘religion’…. certainly some kind of ‘spritual’ element to balance  the aggressive capitalism. cybercrime and warmongering we have at the moment

Hmmmmm food for thought

Ooooops…..have just found out even Nuns have to do admin…..Buggar!!!

Thats scuppered any future notions of that then;)

They ARE lovely tho….the monks and nuns.. is everyone you meet here…

Hmmmm am I buddhist?

Not sure…..this ere book sure makes a lot of sense tho

SO this morning awoke to the usual sound of birdsong only that you get when you stay here… traffic… phones, radio’s,  TV, tablets etc….just birdsong and the slight rustle of trees

Up….showered….breakfast and joined the morning meditation….back to room for a little rest then on way out saw a group hacking away to clear a neglected and overgrown part of the garden….had said before felt I wanted to give somthing back to this place so helped out….thing is….this little patch now looks like my own garden….kind of semi cleared but STILL needs rotivating and planting otherwise it will be a mess again in no time

Blimey am starting to think this is all too familiar of late

Still…. am far more fortunate than many…at least I have a roof and a garden ( the latter of sorts)

ANYWAY then lunchtime meditation followed by an insightful chat with the monk leading it AND a HUG…….much needed at the moment I can tell you

Followed by lunch and further insightful chats with a couple of residents AND visitors like myself

I was saying that every stay here is different but ALWAYS beneficial….it doesnt really sink in till a couple of days after you’ve left

Oh.. .and I’ve bought the book….plus another one ‘Modern Buddhism’ both written by the founder Gesha Kelsang Gyatso…..the Tibetan monk I have mentioned in a previous post AND a prime example….nay more than….of the benefits of immigration….or maybe I should say migration….he migrates like a bird….as do many Tibetan monks….and it wasn’t out of choice….but am glad they did

Hmmmmm……then I nipped into Pocklington and bought some biscuits at the market as a little thankyou

And now am in my cosy room about to read….have a couple of biccy’s   (Hey….change is gradual …I won’t eat them ALL. …honest!!!) then a little nap before tea….a walk round the lake and a further meditation

A little restless last nightbut settled after 1/2 an hour and slept thro

Interesting ‘teaching’ after meditation about  ‘Love’and ‘insecure attachment’ followed by some interesting discussion of some of the young people staying here….interesting questions for intetesting times we are living thro at the moment.but ultimately reassuring that EVERYONE wants ‘happyess’for want of a better word… Its just sometimes questionable how we go about trying to find it…..

And how do we deal with those out to do us ‘harm’?

The Jews trusted in their ‘faith’ in 1930’s Germany and look what happened there

Is there a difference between ‘passion’ and ‘anger’…if not…..when does it tip over

Hmmmmm…..the difficulties and barriers…challenges of human existence

As stated in a previous post and mentioned by one of the monks last night

If ALL children were taught meditation on starting school….if we could all get into the habit of daily practice…

like brushing our teeth say…..THIS would help considerably

Dogma is not good….but maybe at this moment in time MANY peoples are feeling’insecure’…..withdrawing to their particular ‘side’…..

Its all about ‘ intention’ I guess

Right at this moment in time I personally am feeling very calm and peaceful…..can this state of mind be carried foreward I wonder

Hmmmmm…..with regular practice I believe so….. temporary reprieves at least

Am having a media fast at the moment ( was going to say ‘boycott’ but its gentler than that)… must be a carry over from ‘retreat’….everything VERY quiet in the house and noticing all kinds of ‘energy’ when I go outside… playing out….dog walkers….folks of all ages meandering about as they do in summer….its kind of like watching a movie but very nice
